Top Wellness Trends For 2020

As 2019 slowly moves into the past, we look ahead to forecast what the dominant wellness trends will be for 2020.

Men's Wellness

Throughout the last few years, it has become evident that the modern man is investing in their health far more than ever. Because of this, there has also been a rise in men in search for and booking wellness retreats. The International Spa Association, which represents health and wellness properties in more than 70 countries, found that, in 2005, 29 percent of spa customers were men – in 2017 that figure was 49 percent and this percentage is still increasing. Wellness retreats provide the perfect environment for men to begin their wellness journey, so they have the skills needed to live the very best lifestyle for themselves.

Medical Spas Taking the Holistic Approach

Medical Spas are taking a whole new approach to wellness in 2020 as holistic treatments are being recognised and accepted by the traditional medical world. The concept of integrative medicine has become widely popular, with many spas using natural therapies such as acupuncture, hydrotherapy and Reiki to improve a clients health and wellbeing. By combining medical spas with holistic therapies, spas can consider the current physical, mental, emotional and spiritual states of an individual to restore the body's natural balance.

Sound Bathing

The concept of sound baths originated in Tibet over 200 years ago but is now seeing a surge in popularity. This unique process involves being immersed in idyllic sounds and vibrations in order to heal the mind, body and spirit. The sound waves used in the bathing process are produced by the human voice as well as instruments such as chimes, gongs, drums and singing bowls. Many benefit from sound bathing as they believe it can assist in relieving stress and anxiety.

Digital Detox

Being immersed in the digital world has become a huge part of everyday life, with the average adult spending over 10 hours a day listening to, watching, reading or interacting with media. Because of this, many are wanting to remove themselves from the sensory overload and take on a digital detox. By switching off from your devices, you can also switch off completely from the hustle and bustle of life to reconnect with yourself and those around you. With the rise of this digital detox revolution, it has become increasingly evident that more people are requesting ‘black-hole-resorts’, where emptiness and silence are the new luxuries of 2020.

Traditional Medicine

The natural remedies of traditional medicine are becoming more and more popular across the globe as we become increasingly focused on our general health and wellbeing. Treatments such as Traditional Chinese Medicine (which has been in use for over two thousand years,) are becoming popular for those wanting to take a holistic approach to healing the body. TCM encompasses many different practices, including acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, tui na, dietary therapy, tai chi and qi gong. Ayurveda is also increasing in popularity. The rise in demand for this five-thousand-year-old treatment, which is also known as the world's oldest holistic whole-body healing system, comes from its ability to give you the skills to live a healthy, wholesome and more fulfilled life by balancing your mind, body and spirit.
