SHA Mexico Review By Frances Geoghegan

Our owner and founder Frances Geoghegan shares with us what she thought of her recent stay at SHA Mexico.

Arrival & Location

Getting to SHA Mexico is relatively easy, thanks to its location just 45 minutes north of Cancún International Airport. While the airport itself can be chaotic and crowded — especially during peak hours — the transfer to SHA Mexico was easy. Once you leave the airport behind the drive to Costa Mujeres is scenic and calming. The moment you arrive at the property, the contrast is striking: SHA Mexico feels like a self-contained sanctuary, far removed from the party atmosphere and noise of Cancún’s hotel zone. Perched above the Caribbean Sea with uninterrupted ocean views, the resort blends peace, privacy and accessibility in a way that’s rare for a destination of this calibre.

The Accommodation

All of SHA Mexico’s 101 suites face the sea, and my suite was no exception; it had a large private balcony overlooking the Bahia de Mujeres. The design was minimalist but warm — pale tones, natural materials and expansive windows that brought in the ocean breeze and plenty of light. It felt peaceful, not clinical, and offered the ideal environment to decompress.

The SHA Method: Treatments & Therapies

SHA’s wellness approach blends Eastern traditions with advanced Western medicine. After an initial medical consultation my daily itinerary was tailored to meet my goals. The clinic spans six floors and 100 treatment rooms, and includes everything from traditional therapies, (such as acupuncture and deep tissue massage), to cutting-edge treatments like IV ozone therapy, cryotherapy, electromagnetic biofeedback and cell regeneration beds. I tried the VR-based fitness machines from Icaros, which turned core workouts into immersive experiences, and spent time in the hydrotherapy circuit — sauna, steam room, Roman bath and cold plunge — located in the tranquil basement spa area. There's also a rooftop terrace for sunrise yoga and guided sound baths, which quickly became a favourite part of my mornings, as well as a roof top lap pool which hosts the aqua sessions.

There’s no doubt that SHA Mexico stands out as one of the top destinations when it comes to advanced medical diagnostics. During my stay I was genuinely impressed by the depth and range of testing and treatments available — here are just a few of the many options on offer:

Medical & Diagnostic Services

SHA Mexico provides a broad suite of medical diagnostics and therapies. These include blood tests, cognitive evaluations, body composition scans, hormone screenings, food sensitivity tests, IV nutrient drips, ozone IVs and more “cutting-edge” treatments like cell regeneration therapy.

  • Specialist Doctors On Site: There are confirmed medical specialists in areas such as anti-ageing, regenerative medicine, well‑ageing and aesthetic medicine. For example Dr. Diego Martinez Conde leads the Regenerative & Well‑Ageing unit; he holds a medical degree from Mexico’s Anahuac University and certifications in nutrition and functional medicine. I also met multiple doctors during my stay, including general practitioners, anti‑ageing specialists and osteopaths.
  • Personalised Medical Consultations: Guests go through various stages of a detailed medical evaluation on arrival: a general practitioner, then a nutritionist, and often other specialists depending on individual needs. The collated results are then used to tailor health programmes.
  • Integrative / Preventive Medicine Emphasis: SHA Mexico emphasises “preventive & well‑ageing,” through advanced preventive diagnostics & holistic medicine, and by integrating Western scientific approaches with nutrition and lifestyle. This is all part of their SHA Method.

Nutrition & Culinary Experience

Healthy food is a cornerstone of SHA’s philosophy, and the cuisine certainly doesn’t disappoint. Based on macrobiotic principles and Harvard Medical School guidelines, meals at the main restaurant, SHAmadi, were beautifully presented, nutritionally balanced and genuinely enjoyable. Breakfasts often started with miso soup full of vegetables, which brought back memories of traveling in Asia, and plant-based dishes, local seafood, whole grains and alkaline ingredients formed the core of the menu. I took a cooking class with executive chef Lixi Lineas where I learned simple, restorative recipes to recreate at home. SHA Mexico is not completely dry — wine is available if you want it — but alcohol isn’t encouraged. A second restaurant Earthy, which focuses on open-fire cooking, was under construction during my stay and looked promising.

Activities & Excursions

Between treatments, there was plenty to do. I spent time swimming, attending one of the brilliant group fitness classes, or simply relaxing by the beach. The area is also great for water sports, with kite surfers frequently visible from the property’s balconies.

Service & Atmosphere

The staff at SHA Mexico struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth. Many greeted guests with a hand over the heart, a quiet and sincere gesture that immediately set the tone for the entire experience. Service was discreet, attentive and consistent across the clinic, the restaurants and the suites. While the design and treatment spaces are highly modern, nothing felt sterile or intimidating — just thoughtfully curated to support healing and relaxation.

Final Thoughts

SHA Mexico offers a strong wellness proposition that is scientifically grounded & culturally sensitive, and has a luxuriously executed approach to health and well-being. It’s not just a spa getaway — it’s a place to reset your habits, get real medical insight and reconnect with yourself in a stunning setting. Whether you're recovering, optimising your health through diagnostics, or simply pausing from a hectic lifestyle, SHA Mexico delivers on its promise of integrated, transformative wellness.
