Tips for Staying Healthy Whilst Travelling

Travelling, be it for work or vacation, can be a daunting experience for many. Our bodies have to bear a lot of stress in order to move place to place, especially if you have a packed itinerary. Your immune system, digestion and circadian rhythm can also be disrupted which can often affect the mood of your whole trip. We have put together some tips for how to strengthen your immunity, stay healthy and avoid falling sick.

Be Prepared

It is always wise to research into the destination that you are travelling to. Ensure you have some knowledge of basic subjects such as what the weather will be like, if the water is clean to drink and if there are any ongoing breakouts. If you have any requirements (such as pregnant women, people with disabilities, people with weakened immune systems, recent illnesses or injuries), consult your doctor for any advice or precautions.

Be Aware of the Food you are Eating

For many, the idea of eating amazing food from different cultures is the highlight of any trip, however, remember to eat in moderation.  Opt for less oily, sugary or salty foods and try to eat ass many fruit and vegetables as possible. Stuffing too much food will put stress on your gut and so can lead to some negative side effects. Remember it is wise to only eat food that is cooked and served hot. Raw fruits or veggies should only be eaten after being washed using clean running water or peeled. Note that ice could have been made with unclean water.

Vitamins and Minerals

When travelling it is advised to take vitamins that can prevent you from suffering any illnesses. Vitamin C and B6 are good for your immune system which you can get from oranges, strawberries or broccoli and vitamin B6 from salmon, tuna, or green veggies.

Stay Hydrated

This may seem like an obvious tip to staying healthy, however, if you have got a very packed itinerary you may forget. We advise to always have water accessible, be sure your drinking water is clean and safe. If not, stick to bottled water.

Have Enough Sleep

Your body needs to rest when travelling. You may plan to stay up late on certain nights, so try to sleep early the night before and after.
