How To Eat Within The Yoga Diet
The best way to start the morning is either a green tea, hot water with lemon, fresh vegetable broth, herbal tea, turmeric, peppermint or ginger tea. These drinks aren’t only hydrating but also very cleansing as they also support the lymphatic system which is one of the body’s natural detox pathways. Porridge with fruit is also commonly consumed with your choice of drink on a yogic diet for breakfast due to its warming and energizing properties. A daily breakfast of porridge and fruit will provide the ultimate long-lasting energy needed for the yoga practice and for the day ahead.
Many who practice yoga or have knowledge on the ayurvedic diet know that the digestive fire is greatest at noon each day, so it’s best to consume the largest meal during this time. Focus on having a larger lunch based on vegetables and salads with vegan-based proteins such as tofu, chickpeas, navy bean sprouted grains. Other options such as curries of vegetable soup can also be great. Your daily intake of fats should come from nourishing oils such as olive or flax oil and nuts and seeds in small amounts.
During dinnertime, it is important to have a lighter meal than lunch that is full of cooked foods. You want your energy levels to start slowing down at the end of the day to keeping your portions small is the best idea. For your evening meal, consume plenty of cooked vegetables and be sure to include at least one cooked root vegetables such as carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squash, or pumpkin.
The most important part of the yoga diet is to ensure that you are eating with gratitude and love. Take time eating your meals and try not to be distracted by the outside world and technology. This connects you to the planet on a greater level, along with yourself and your body.

2. All vegetables, except onions and garlic
3. Whole grains, especially oats, wheat, and rice
4. Beans, tofu, mung, aduki
5. Plant-based oils, like sesame, sunflower, and olive oil
6. Nuts and seeds, yet not salted or overly roasted
7. Natural, raw sugar, maple, molasses
8. Herbal teas
9. Sweet spices, like cinnamon, cardamom, mint, basil, turmeric, ginger, cumin, fennel
Foods to Avoid
1. Meat and fish of all types, including eggs
2. Processed and/or artificial foods
3. Animal fats, margarine
4. Fried foods
5. Canned foods, except naturally canned tomatoes and fruit
6. White flour, white sugar
7. Garlic, onions, spicy foods
9. Microwaved foods
10. Alcohol, tobacco, stimulants
