Are We Chasing The New & Forgetting The Good?

16/01/2026, Frances Geoghegan, Owner & Founder, Healing Holidays

In an industry that thrives on innovation and inspiration it is tempting to focus our attention on the next best opening. The newest spa. The latest concept. The shiny addition that promises something different. Yet as wellness experts we should pause and ask ourselves an important question. Are we spending enough time ensuring that the spas we already champion are still truly delivering?

At Healing Holidays we have always believed that our responsibility does not end once a spa is added to our collection. In many ways that is where the real work begins. Spas are living breathing entities. Therapists change. Management evolves. Treatments are refined or sometimes diluted. A spa that was exceptional five years ago does not automatically remain so without continued care attention and integrity.

This is why revisiting and reassessing the spas on our books is just as important as discovering new ones. Quality in wellness is not static. It requires consistency. It requires values that are upheld over time. It requires an ongoing commitment to guest experience staff wellbeing and therapeutic depth. Without this a spa risks becoming a beautiful shell rather than a place of genuine healing.

The question of what makes the best spa is one we are asked frequently. My honest answer is that there is no single best spa. Wellness is deeply personal. One guest may seek clinical precision and measurable outcomes. Another may crave emotional restoration space and stillness. Some are drawn to ritual and tradition. Others to science and innovation. Preference shapes perception and perception shapes experience.

So how can anyone definitively rank the best spas in the world? I am not sure that we truly can. What we can do however is ensure that the spas we recommend are authentic. That they are aligned with their purpose. That they continue to deliver on their promise. And that they respect the individuality of each guest who walks through their doors.

Perhaps the real measure of excellence in a spa is not how new it is or how often it is talked about but how consistently it supports wellbeing over time. How it adapts without losing its soul. How it listens to its guests and its therapists alike.

In a world that is constantly chasing what is next there is something quietly powerful about standing by what is already good and making sure it stays that way. That is where trust is built. And trust in wellness is everything.
